Shoulder Pain Physiotherapy

Shoulder pain physiotherapy

Assessment and rehabilitation for shoulder pain, rotator cuff-related conditions, stiffness and restricted movement — in clinic or at home.

Shoulder pain can make everyday tasks — dressing, reaching overhead, sleeping on one side, lifting shopping — surprisingly difficult. The most common causes involve the rotator cuff tendons, joint stiffness, or changes related to age and load.

Rehabilitation focuses on understanding what aggravates your shoulder, then progressively rebuilding strength, movement and confidence with an individualised exercise program.

Bulk billing at our clinics

Eligible Medicare patients referred under a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP) can be bulk billed at our Jesmond, Yagoona and Parramatta clinics.

Conditions we commonly see

Including:

  • Rotator cuff-related shoulder pain
  • Rotator cuff tears (non-surgical management)
  • Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)
  • Shoulder osteoarthritis
  • Rehabilitation after shoulder surgery
  • Shoulder pain after a fall or injury

Assessment

We assess shoulder movement and strength, how the shoulder blade and neck contribute, and which activities provoke your symptoms. Where appropriate, we liaise with your GP about imaging or specialist review.

Rehabilitation

Exercise-based rehabilitation is the foundation of care for most shoulder conditions. Programs are progressed gradually — starting with comfortable movement and building to strengthening that matches your daily, work or sporting demands. Hands-on treatment and activity modification may be used alongside exercise.

Recovery times vary widely between conditions; frozen shoulder, for example, can take many months. We'll give you a realistic outline after your assessment.

Frequently asked questions

Usually not. Many shoulder conditions can be assessed clinically. If imaging would change your management, we'll discuss it with you and your GP.

Many people with rotator cuff tears, particularly degenerative tears, are managed with exercise-based rehabilitation. Your physiotherapist and GP or surgeon can help you weigh up the options.

Yes — we follow your surgeon's protocol and progress rehabilitation as your shoulder heals.
